Let me share a story with you about the most baffling and irritating problem I ever experienced with my laptop. It’s the same machine which, earlier, played tricks like “class not registered” and “hibernation option disappeared” on me (which I have discussed in earlier posts in this blog). The latest one that it threw at me rendered me completely witless. The machine simply stopped the wireless connectivity – and I was stuck with my laptop in one single place of the room where the ethernet cable was hooked up!
I use a HP Pavilion tx1000 Notebook, which they also called an “entertainment PC”. It’s really a nice one, even though a little less powerful than equivalent Intel Core 2 Duo machines (this one runs on AMD Turion 64×2 [dual core] processor), but really a value for money with packed up good features and softwares from HP.
The wireless on it was running excellently well since the day I had bought it, which would be more than a year by now. The machine was reset back to its factory settings in April this year, as I was trying to get the Vista SP1 installed cleanly. And it worked fine for about a month as well, since that was done.
And then one fine day last week, the wireless was simply gone! The Device Manager was not showing the wifi device, reinstalling the WLAN driver wasn’t causing any change, flashing the BIOS and installing the latest one from HP’s website wasn’t curing anything!
As you can understand, I went through a series of attempts in order to resolve the problem, as I was getting various opinions from the forums across the internet:
- System restore to a point before the problem – Solved it once and got wireless back. After a reboot problem came back again.
- Complete factory restore (yes, I did it again!) – Solved it once. After reboot problem came back again.
- Did a complete factory restore once more and checked through “safe mode with networking” – The wireless worked once and then disappeared from safe mode as well after a reboot.
A completely flabbergasted me tried chatting with an HP support agent online. She advised (and as was advised by a particular thread in the internet as well) to remove and reseat the wireless card in the machine. Now I would have tried that out, but the screw was so small that I was lacking a right tool to do it. Thinking of that as the last option (well, the last one in reality will be to go to a machanic and get it fixed by paying for it!), I was willing to wait till I could find a tool, meanwhile my machine was connected to the net via ethernet cable.
Since the machine was rebuilt now back to factory settings, I was installing softwares back one after another. In the process of that, I uninstalled Norton Internet Security that came with the machine with a 60 days trial period (now this is funny – every time I took my machine back through the time machine called “reset to factory settings”, my 60 day period renewed!).
The moment it was done, my wireless came back! And it stayed on even after subsequent reboots.
It reminded me of a particular thread in one of the forums I visited – that another person had the same problem and killing some of the Norton processes running did the trick for him. However, his case was that wireless was working in safe mode (w/ networking) and wasn’t in normal mode – and he could do a process-by-process-comparison between the 2 states of the machine.
Anyway, I now use AVG Free Antivirus, Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, and Norton Security Scan (that came with Google pack). And I use my wireless. Bye bye, Norton Internet Security!
We’re having the exact same problem on the same HP model series. I have the tx1220us, and I’ve been trying to figure out what’s going on. It’s been about a month since it started. I have an extra broadcom wireless network card that I installed (exactly what’s installed on my machine), and it didn’t fix the problem. I also tried the new BIOS update (F.20) and it’s still a problem.
I stumbled into this website:
http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1212556106774+28353475&threadId=1188907
I’m about to try taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding the power button on for a few seconds to reset it as suggested by Vince Boyle. I hope it works.
Hi,
I had the same problem and the only solution is to send it in to HP and they will replace the motherboard. They do not have a fix for this problem other than replacing the motherboard every time it fails. I really like this laptop but because of this problem and HPs refusal to find a fix I will never buy another HP laptop again. Their customer service was really fast and good but all that is negated by a problem that is not solved. This problem occurs not only on this series but across the various laptops. All you have to do is go on the HP forum and a large majority of the posts have to do with wireless problems.
I had the same problem when I downgraded the tx1000 from Vista to XP. the following was posted on the HP site and seems to have fixed it for me. No problems for the past few days.
Cheers

Hello,
I have a dv6000 laptop and my wireless driver, also, vanished without a trace. I went on Google and Yahoo and looked around to find any way on fixing this problem. I have read what other people have done and never worked. However I have found something interesting. When reinstalling the driver for the wireless and restarting the computer the wireless appears until the next restart/stand-by/hibernation. I have noticed that some of the configuration files get overwritten by either Windows or maybe an update. I do not know what is causing the files to be overwritten but because of that the computer can not recognize the wireless driver. So I have tried my own method of fixing this without sending the computer to be serviced which, by the way, some people have reported that sending it to be fixed with a new system board does not work. So here is my method and hopefully it will work for you. I have restarted my computer several times and each time the wireless driver is detected and running.
1) Restart the computer and enter into Safe Mode.
2) Uninstall the wireless driver from Control Panel.
3) Goto Program Files in your C drive and look for the Broadcom folder and delete it. Make sure that you remove it from the Recycle Bin too. Also you should have the latest version of the driver. (Boardcom 4.100.15.5) The HP website has this available (sp34152.exe). [Get the driver downloaded on your computer before doing any of these steps] In the SWSetup folder there should be a folder named WLAN delete all the files in there and replace it (copy and paste) the Boardcom files that you downloaded.
3) Restart the computer and enter into Safe Mode again.
4) Reinstall the driver. Check in Device Manager to see if the driver is there. If not then restart the computer and enter in Safe Mode again. The computer should see the wireless driver now.
5) In the C:\ProgramFiles\Boardcom there would be several system and configuration files. Right click on each of them and make the files Read-Only and click OK. The computer is going to give you an error. Ignore it and click on Cancel. Go back to the properties and you will see that the files are now Read-Only. Also goto C:\Windows\system32\drivers and look for a file named bcmwl5.sys and right click on the file and goto properties and make that file Read-Only.
6) Restart the computer and enter the computer in normal mode. The wireless driver should be installed and in the device manager and working 100%.
Hope this helps everyone. Good luck.
Dear Michael Shaw,
Your process sounds very convincing. I will definitely try this out. Because I must admit, even after my process, the wireless is still sometimes going off – sometimes coming back on – all I have to do every time it vanishes is:
1. When the computer is ON, I remove the battery (it runs on direct power)
2. I shut it down by pulling the power out (I know it is dangerous, but if I shut it down normally, it retains some memory that wireless wasn’t there)
3. I start it up -> go to BIOS -> do “reset all settings to default”
4. Start it up in “safe mode with networking” -> I see the wireless ON
5. Shut down and start up in normal mode -> wireless is there
6. Put battery back on
But the process is clearly a pain. Will try out yours, and update back how it went.
Thanks
IC
Dear Carlo & Patricia,
Thanks for your comments, too 🙂
Cheers
IC
Michael,
Sorry mate – but your solution did not work for me. I did all the steps – but still losing wireless at times.
The easiest solution that I am doing now is:
1. If at any state I find wireless gone, I shut down the laptop
2. Remove the battery
3. Remove power cord, keep the machine cold for 10 mins (appx)
4. Start the laptop only on direct power (no battery) -> wireless comes back
5. Put the battery back
I guess I just have to wait till HP solves their motherboard problem (someone said in one of the forums that it is due to the way motherboard powers up different sub-circuits when the battery is ON).
Cheers,
IC
Hey, I tried some of the suggestions made by doing a few power cycles and holding the power button on while the machine is unplugged and no battery is installed with no little success. It didn’t work every time.
I have wireless at the moment, and the only change I made is to lessen the heat generated. I turned off some of the extraneous stuff like transparency in Vista.
This is odd….
I have had the Wireless Asst. fail on me constantly, just like all of you. The other day after fruitlessly buying a Wireless LAN card (since there is no port for it on the tx1000, it was returned) I popped the DVD-RW Drive out to see if by chance there was a “hidden port” inside the slot where the drive goes. Remember the tx1000 has the swappable drives. Well after that my WLAN Adapter started working again, blue light!
This morning I woke up after a hard shutdown and saw it was orange again. I waited for boot up, got everything logged in and set. While running, I just popped the DVD-RW out again, and once reinserted, the WLAN started working again!!!
I don’t want to say this is a solution, but right now no test has proved me wrong. Anyone (and I know there are some of you) willing to try this and see if my fix is a common solution? Thanks!
I’m having exactly the same problems, and every time is harder to make it come back to work. Uninstalling solved the problem the first 10 times. Now it’s not working. I restarted the computer into safemode an the wireless didn’t work on safe mode, when I restarted the computer on normal mode the Wireless was back to normal. I didn’t restarted since them. Does anyone found a definitive solution? This problem started almost a year using this noteook… I think the problem started after installing the Vista SP1. Do you think it can be related?
Thanks.
Carlos
hi all..im having the same problem with my wireless with tx1000z…tried many things.. installing/reinstalling driver…worked for a few days and then stopped…then uninstaling the sp1 for vista.. fixed it for a weeka nd back to the same problem..now.. im trying the battery resetting thing.. taking out the battery and all…it is working for now dont know how long will it work.. but bottom line im not keeping this laptop for long….laptop looks very cool but everything else sucks…hp sucks…they should ahev come up with some solution but they dont know and they cant find it…
thanks
sukh
Yeh I see lots and lots more of us are having the same problem. Wifi comes and goes and then one day disappears never to be seen again. Bad thing is I run my business off of this computer and internet is a must. Very disappointed(Good thing it’s still under warranty).
I guess I’ll try some of these steps. Factory Restore/Norton Removal sounds promising.
I’ll never buy anything from hp again no matter how sweet the price is. Sadly this computer was given to me on my birthday before going to college.
I have a message for HP:
There aren’t that many people generous enough to give a computer as a present – YOU MAKE THEM LOOK BAD BY SELLING THEM A BAD PRODUCT.
Ivo(VERY UNHAPPY OWNER OF tx1000)
Im having the same problem, i have tx1000, i live in colombia…
VERY UNHAPPY OWNER OF tx1000 TOO
I’ve had the same problem on a couple of occasions with my TX1000, where the wireless will just disconect for no reason. Then a couple days of ago it just went missing from the device manager. I decided to buy a new wireless card, but to no avail it didn’t work. So as i was speaking to a customer service rep on the phone about it, I decided to uninstall the nvidia drivers (smbus, ethernet, video) from the system. I had a problem once before updating the video drivers from windows updates which completly slowed the system down. Anyways, so I reinstalled the nvidia drivers, and lo and behold the wireless started working once I toggled the wireless switch. I believe the problem is driver related and not necessarily hardware. Let me know if removing the nvidia drivers works for others.
Albert
Hey every one I’ve been fiddling with my tx1000-got some updates installed(after restoring the computer to factory settings-wipe everything off in desperation and start over in hopes of a miracle) and now that all the recommended updates have been made…guess what…there is a tiny red “X” in the corner of my screen and a sickening orange light under a hand that was just sending an e-mail.
I restart the computer and nothing happens.
In fact every time I toggle switch to turn on wireless a message pops up saying: “wireless:OFF” for every time I slide the switch.
Now here is how I got it to work(also temporarily, but enough to get it back once every thing else fails)
step1:restart computer
step2:if step1 didn’t help wait for every thing to load mainly for the HP-pcHealth thing that will say in one of it’s corners that you have no internet.
step3:now go to “start menu” and go to HP’sRecovery utility easily found with windows search tool.
step4:once the thing pops up and says something like “hey you’ll be using this a lot from now on”JK as you go down the application window there will be a button”advanced recovery options”(or something similar)-press it.
step5:in the new window there will be an option for”software restoration” check it and press next.
step6:in the list of programs choose “wireless network assistant” and press next.
step7:it will ask you to make sure this is the program you want to reinstall…… blah…… blah ……….you press next …..yes/no to restart……..yes and it will restart.
step8:your computer has restarted now don’t touch that switch just yet…let everything load…now if the light is still orange go on and try to turn it on if all went well it should turn blue.
I know it’s a lot, but it’s better than sending it to HP for TWO MONTH only to have the problem resurface in a week of two.(Trust me it’s been tried)
Hope this novel helps the occasional victim of HP’s shitty product.
Ivo
When I said it’s been tried I meant this:
http://www.codoxide.com/post/TX1000-Update-HP-SUCKS!.aspx
Al: curious – which drivers you used to reinstall? which link?
Ivo: I guess within a few days no solution is sustaining… really sad! I am using a usb wireless dongle these days – at least that is not betraying me (and even if it did, I can always buy another one in 10 pounds!).
I just experienced exactly the same problem. Will try whatever stated and report later. Hope all these can fix the problem.
Hurray for Michael Shaw!!! After doing his step by step guide finally my wireless is working again, I’ve restarted my tx1000 3 times and still i have my wireless card working with windows xp sp3. Thanks dude, you’re the man 🙂
Thank you, Michael Shaw!!! I followed the step guide you provide. Now my wireless light works! Thank you!
After lots of experience with this, and lots of thought, I think it is power supply that causes it.
Over time (appx 1 yr + for almost all of us) it seems that the battery we use (supplied with original product) loses the amperage. And so does the AC adapter/converter.
What happens is that the motherboard does not get enough amperage to power up all subcircuits, and especially all “attached” devices (after all, the PCI card / wireless card is not built into the motherboard, it’s a pop-in thing). Perhaps there is an “importance” sequence for these additionally attached devices, hence the DVD drive still works, but wifi card does not (will explain one of the comments above).
When I used the other battery (the bigger 6 cell one, supplied with original product) it was easier to get the wireless back. I guess if we alternately use one battery and the other (say change once a month) the problem will be experienced less. Of course one can replace the products and buy new ones, but strangely HP has discontinued the battery model for tx1020ea laptop – as per their own website!!!!!!!
This thought-process explains both my wireless problem as well as my problem with laptop start-up.
Hey,
So i’m having the same problem with my HP dv6000 currently. I will try some of the suggested fixes and report back. This is so frustrating.
@Indrajit Chatterjee
I have two 6-cell batteries and one 4-cell battery. I’ve been diligently switching all three for the 1 year I’ve had the laptop, but still I had the disappearing wireless problem. Anyway, I’ve sent my tx1220us back to HP. It should have a new motherboard when I get it back.
In the same boat, posted my results here:
http://blog.nofreebits.com/2008/09/hp-laptops-with-amd-processors-and.html
Lets see if we can get enough people to look at any one of our sites!
hi i have hp compaq 3228 laptop.since 1 year wifi working
excellent.now wifi card is not detected in my laptop i
checked in device manager.when i restart laptop several
times wlan is detecting and working.and if i uninstall
display driver wifi working 100%.plse someone suggest me
solution to solve this plse
I am extremely frustrated, i got my tx1000 as a gift for an expensive wireless subscription plan about a few months back. The most fucked up thing is that i have to plug in the ethernet cable every fncking time because the wireless card cant be detected.
I am extremely pissed with HP, what are they doing?
I own tonnes of HP related crap… My previous computer was a HP, i have 2 HP Ipaqs and now, thanks to this piece of crap TX1000… i must say that i am about DONE with HP.
HP INVENT.
Yeah, they INVENT problems.
Come up with a solution soon, you HP dipshits. You’ve been ignoring this issue for so long, we need to start a lawsuit against them to make them wake up their fucking idea.
And for the record,
I own a Sony Vaio and an Acer Travelmate as well and both are functioning well…
I dont need to do funny shitty things like switching them on/off. reinstall drivers or take out the batteries to them to make them work….
FUCK YOU HP.
same story, same problem, still no solution: forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=19208
Well all,
It sounds like i’m meeting all of these above boring stuff on my (new since 4 monthes) HP tx1000 1350ef :
1. My Broadcom 4321AG blabla can’t be seen on the Network Devices anymore, even after reboots & reboots
2. I’ve spent at the beginning a lot of time by using all restorig methods, up to the faory one !!! Nevertheless, always this amber color of the wireless spot.
3. As i’m working in Madagascar, i “just” wait to come back to Paris to send it back to HP (fortunately i took a 3-Years serenity warranty in my package). How long should i stay then in Paris to get my laptop back ?
4. And fortunately again, i bought a little D-Link USB Network Wireless adaptor “in case of” (in fact, primarly dedicated to another laptop…).
This last point helped me to think much more efficiently to my daily work than to try to fix this obviously HP merestuff !!!
Discovering & reading all threads on this issue comfort me on my choice …(LOL)
For your info, i’ve had the same problem 2 monthes ago but with the NVIDIA nForce network controler, but that time a tech friend fixed the issue by restoring the factory configuration. I’ve been impressed… But today, this method does’nt work with the Broadcom Wireless blabla…
Hope to find out the best fix anyway.
Fuck HP.
My laptop just died, right after Halloween. I’m still on warranty, but warranties mean fuck all in Africa, where I am right now.
Go to hell nVidia, and HP can follow you.
yup. same here. 3 days ago my hp pavilion dv6000 wireless blue light went away. ill see if any of these methods can help this frustrating problem. Fuck HP.
I have a solution that works 90% of the time for me.
The first way:
1. When you see the amber light, open the driver recovery program.
2. Install the Broadcom wireless driver, do not click finish.
3. On the task bar, right click the driver recovery and click close.
4. Put the computer in sleep mode, and after about 10 flashes of the power light, wake it up.
5. Log in, and you should see something that says installing drivers in the bottom right corner of the screen.
6. If, after that, your wireless light is blue and it will not detect wireless networks, reinstall the driver once again and close the program, do not click finish.
7. It should work after that.
The second way:
If the first way does not work, do this:
1. Run the driver recovery and reinstall the broadcom driver.
2. Click Finish and reboot PC.
3. Wait until computer is fully started up, and put it in sleep mode.
4. After approx. 15-20 mins, wake it up.
5. Once again, you should see it installing the drivers in the bottom right corner.
You may need to repeat these steps a couple times, but they usually work, enjoy!
btw, I have a dv9000 with the same problems, so I know what you’re talking about.
Tried everything, nothing worked for me!
Very upset wt this tx1320us, which is the very last hp I’ve got in this life (and next life).
Oh, and btw, HP service really sucked, too!
Here’s a quick fix for a HP DV6000 that can’t connect to the
internet, no network adapter detected in device manager problem:
not long ago, i also experienced this problem
my “HP Pavilion DV6308NR” with Vista OS is not connecting to the
internet
and the network adapter is not found under device manager.
Even the HP Wireless Assistant is not working.
I turned it on but my laptop still says it’s disabled.
after a month of turn off, wait for 5 minutes and plug again routine.
I decided to look into the system configuration and here’s what I
did:
1. Restart PC
2. Enter “Setup” by pressing as soon as you see the HP logo
on you screen
3. Go to “System Configuration” by pressing the left button twice
4. Go to “Boot options” by pressing down button 4 times
5. Press Enter
6. Go to “Internal Network Adapter Boot” by pressing the the down
button 3 times, then check if its DISABLED (of which in my case
was)
7. Then press to ENABLE it.
8. Lastly, Press to Save and Exit, then Select YES.
9. After that, PC will continue its boot process and make sure
you’re Wireless Assistant is switched on.
And Viola! I can connect to the internet again!
I hope this solves the problem.
It worked for me.
Try it.
woauhhhh Jazee !
it was so simple but i couldn’t think a while before that this option could exist in the system configuration.
I checked mine according your post and my wifi adapter boot was switched off !!!!!!
And i changed it and now it works !!!!!!!
despites our kicks again HP, at the end the question is “why does this adapter vary off”…
ok, thanks to you *all, i think that all contributions were efficient !
BB
Good to know that this new solution is working for people…!
My HP Pavilion is still dead – sitting ice cold in my desk drawer – while I am using my netbook. Once I get that fixed, will try this solution out.
Till then – dear readers – keep posting!
Well i too have the same problem with persario v6102au, those BASTARDS!!! replaced the motherboard 3 times still no use, i told them it may be the card they are saying its the MOBO, Those fuckers are not even engineers who work in service center, i tried micheal method it brought the card back… however after a restart it goes off. i dont know why this happens with hp, I am frustrated, and i will never buy any hp product i will dump this hp laptop, and for those fuckers in hp, if you dont know to handle a product and customer shut down your computer you fuck faces, yeah thats right Fuck face take a step back and literally fuck your face up….
This is a $1600 laptop(tx1000) and the lady who owns it went to HP Support and they told her all she needed was a new wireless miniPCI adapter. So I do what she tells me to do. Of course, no blue light. Do you think that the shit-for-brains technician at HP is aware of this issue by now? Why the fuck can’t they tell the damn truth? Wouldn’t you like to hear this for a change? “Hey, we’re sorry. We screwed up and it’s a design flaw. We will send you a prepaid box. Please ship it back to us, we’ll take care of it.”e that?
I HATE goddamn corporate America. They are totally impervious from any consequences of their ignorant acts. The arrogant bastards, let them come to ME for a fucking bailout. I’ll give them a bailout.
Ok, I’m back. So bottom line, there IS no solution to this problem other than a return to HP for a new motherboard. I have tried every trick and every technique people have been telling about and I get zilch.
So far among all different solutions I think the most effective one is :
It worked for me consistently for some days. I think this needs to be done again and again from time to time, but at least it is very easy to do. Thanks Jazee!!!
Jazee’s solution didnt work for me, i tried it and yes i was disabled but it didnt fix the problem after i enabled it, i had have tried almost evertythiing lastest BIOS and lastest wireless driver, i took the wireless card out and put it back in againg and it worked for a couple pf times but not anymore.
i have the tx1410 us notebook pc and it has the same problem with the wireless card, about 5 months ago the wireless card died but then about 20 days after it died the wireless came back again and then it was gone and i had to reboot the machine for like three or more times and it was back and then gone and so on, then the problem was every time i tried to install a new software after the installation was complete the wireless was gone, or when hibernating the computer, but that wasnt it my computer was having another problems like the wireless assistant was causing trouble, the quickplay software wanst working, the mobility center wasnt working and the quickbuttons on the lid werent working, besides all of that the system was runnin a way too slow about 10 minutes to start up and like 8 to shut down and things like that, and the temperature of the computer was really high after 30 minutes of use so warm that i could burn my legs even with jeans on, so i had no option that to do a system recovery to all factory settings, aftert the sytem recovery was done all the problems were fixed but the wifi, it still is gone i have blue light because the of the bluetooth it have never stoped working but i have no wifi, i try upgrading to windows 7 beta but the wifi didnt come back and now hp is telling me that i have to send my computer to them and pay $300usd because the warranty of 1 year already expired after 9 months of my purchase, how come this happend? i dont know, but the keep giving me excuses and stupid solutions that we all tried already without any result.
the HP tx tablepcs series might look really cool but im not buying anything else from hp
Your story sounds so familiar – I share the exact same feeling! Thanks for sharing.
guys look, i tool the wireless card out, cleaned it but it back in( ake sure u remember where the 2 antena clables were) turned on the laptop using only the battery and guess what ?!!!!!!!!!1
error messege!!!!!!!!
“104- unsupported wireless network device detected. syste, halted. romove device and restart”
at leat it detected it lol
Hi all,
same story here with a tx1000
HP advised that even though they do replace the motherboard outside the 1 year warranty for some laptops that had the same problem, they do not replace for tx1000
that really sucks. I had my IT manager check the pc thoroughly and he advised me that only solution is replacing motherboard
Called HP and they said it ill cost me $300
I was willing to do it but after reading this post I am worried that after replacing the motherboard I will get again the same problem
Anyone with experience of replacing the motherboard? did it actually work for a long period? I am thinking if I have to replace again I might as well buy a new laptop (NOT HP!!!)
Any word of a class action suit against them? What pisses me off is the fact that they can get away with it!!!
Can you imagine BMW selling a car that the cooling system blows up after a year and they ask you to pay for the repair?
How can HP get away with it? I would love to join a class action against them
cheers
Well i could live without the cooling systen in my car, but not without internet in my laptop!!! Its sucks
And about the 300 repair thing they told me that after the fix it they renew a warranty of 90 days in case ut breaks againg, but im wondering how about if it breaks again after the 91th day? Ummh.
I think they desing those laptops to stop working so ppl have to buy a nee one and thats why they’re cheap idk but i should’ve listen to my friend when he told me to buy a sony vaio 😦
DK
Hi all,
I’ve got the same problem like all of you.
my WLAN gone 1 week after warranty i tried to do all thing from recovery flash BIOS till the last is New MB.
6 months after i replace new MB i still got the same problem missing WLAN Power On But no display. i think i’m not gonna waste my time and money with this SUCK company anymore.
i gonna buy new with INTEL Chipset it’s should be a good chioce other than 3rd party Chipset such as fuck NVIDIA.
GOOD LUCK….
I had the same problem with my wireless card detection on my HP TX1320US. After reading the comments on this post, I got a clue about SW issue (before I was already looking for a replace part number on Internet). This morning I got a automatic SW update from Microsoft for Silverligh 2.0. As it was the only one SW update I got, I just removed the SW and after a reboot I got my wireless network running again. Before that, I tried to reboot a lot of times without any success. The one million question is: why new Silvelight affected my wireless HW detection?
Daraf
Hey guys. I have the tx1000 and I was having the same problem with the wireless card not being detected. This is a hardware problem (motherboard) that kicks in after about a year of use. Mine started to show the problem about two months ago and I tried everything and nothing seem to work. Tonight I backed up all my data and restored the laptop to the manufacturing settings (formated the HD and reinstalled the OS, this can be done from the recovery menu at start if you press F5 before the computer loads) and my wireless seems to be working just fine. I have restarted the laptop a few times now, and the problem seems to have disappeared. Good luck!
Alex
Hey there!
i have HP tx2009au and have been experiencing this problem from last 2 days. Will try these solutions and let know which one worked.
I have tried all solutions I came across. The one that worked from me is reinstall the graphics driver.
There must be some hardware address assignment problem. Yours could be because of a conflict with another hardware. What I would do in your case is the following:
Run the recovery manager and choose advance options. Then from the list choose reinstall hardware drivers and it will give you a list of hardware device in your system. Start with the nvidia (or ati) driver. The computer will reboot. If wireless does not come up, then reinstall the next hardware device.
I hope this helps.
Having the same problems, just add my name to list of people banning HP from my work/home
i had the same problem with my hp pavilion tx 1314ca
the wlan card disappeared :S i tried everything but dsn´t work :S
i will try to reinstall t graphic drivers
I have an HP tx1219us which has the problem of the Broadcom Wireless Card not being seen.
I have worked on computers since the 386 and 486 generation (1994) this is a baffling and persistent recurring issue even for me. I will have to concluded the following:
1. It must be a hardware/heat/motherboard issue.
2. Is it worth the TIME to try to resolve the issue?
3. For 40 bucks a wireless USB Pen will fix the problem (if its just the Broadcom issue).
4. Never again will I purchase any HP product. This will be the only thing HP will listen to.
I have tried many of these suggestions found above and more from other sites. Some have worked for a short period of time and again Broadcom would just disappear.
The latest try was:
(however after reboot it took 5 minutes to find the “drivers” for the card).

I Have an HP Tablet tx1320us with a Broadcom wifi card and the Ron’s Solution worked for me, thank you Ron !!!:
Ron Says:
Solution works for me:
1. With laptop running and wireless button in “on” position, press and hold down the power button until the laptop shuts off completely.
2. Press the power button again to restart.
3. Start Windows normally.
4. Taa-daa!
My undying gratitude to Michael Shaw! Thanks for your fix!
this may help you to fix the WIFI problem!!!!!!!
I uninstalled my HP Wireless Assistant because I read somewhere that it was the one that triggers the shutdown of the wireless card.
Anyway, right-click My Computer and click manage. Go to Services and look for Net Driver HPZ12. This service should be Started and in Automatic mode. If it isn’t, then right click it, click on properties, pick Automatic from the list, click on apply then click on Start. Afterwards, make sure you restart your laptop. Once your laptop is on, make sure your wireless is on as well(look for little wireless sliding button, in my case it was on the right front panel of my laptop… blue light=on, orange light=off).

Hi everyone,
I encountered the same issue with the wireless adapter network for the HP pavilion tx1000. I uninstalled my HP Wireless Assistant because I read somewhere that it was the one that triggers the shutdown of the wireless card. After restarting my laptop, a new material was detected and it was the wireless network adapter. so I installed the wireless adapter driver and it’s working fine for me now!
you may need to try this too:
right-click My Computer and click manage. Go to Services and look for Net Driver HPZ12. This service should be Started and in Automatic mode. If it isn’t, then right click it, click on properties, pick Automatic from the list, click on apply then click on Start. Afterward, make sure you restart your laptop. Once your laptop is on, make sure your wireless is on as well (lid should be shown as blue)

Strange, I’ll have to check my BIOS settings, but I had narrowed this same problem down to a driver conflict with the binary ATI driver. I stopped trying to use Compiz and I haven’t had problems with wireless since.

It looks like you are a real expert. Did ya study about the subject? haha..
Well, I commented back on 4 Jun 08. I had just got my computer back from HP where they replaced both the motherboard and the screen when I had the wireless problem. I caught the problem just a couple of weeks befor the warranty ended. I felt obliged at the time to buy another year of warranty as I did not know how long the repair was going to last.
Well, a year and half later (and now out of warranty) the laptop is giving me display problems. It will work fine then the display goes al screwy and freezes. I just updated the graphic driver so hopefully that will help.
I am now looking for a new laptop and it probably won’t be an HP. This laptop lasted only two and half years. Evry other laptop I have owned I was able to sell with no problem when I bought new ones. This one will go in the scrap heap. Luckily I have an Asus EEE netbook so I at least have net acees to the net and email while waiting to buy a new laptop.
I think HP always wants you to buy newer products – that’s why they come up with so many model variants so quickly… and none of them actually lasts long! Wonderful business idea, once you come to think of it, won’t you say?!
Thank you all
Hello All…. I read with interest the problems you have had.
I have a dv6000 (6409wm and the wireless card has vanished, just sent it out for 7 weeks to no avail….. is there something I can do myself for this model please….. I am really, really upset 😦
@sadasil
you can buy a wifi dongle. it comes pretty cheap. that’s the only thing i can think about.
I am having the same problem. At first, I thought it was a defective wireless card, so I bought a new one and replaced mine. After a reboot, the same problem popped up, blue light on, but wireless card not showing up in device manager. I live in California, so I can have all the advantages of HP support unlike some of the people I have seen in this thread. However, when I contacted HP support, they told me that my problem was not recognized by HP, even though my HP tx1000 obviously is not the only one that has this problem. I spent the next 3 weeks tweaking with my laptop because I was low on funds. I got it to work a couple times by flashing the BIOS for some reason, and by doing system restores. Eventually, I contacted HP support again and I told them that the problem was widespread with all HP tx1000 series laptops, and that they have no right to refuse to fix my problem. They told me that my computer was out of waranty by 6 days, but I could extend it for 1 year for $140. Frustrated, I hung up on them, and bought a USB wireless adapter. I’ve been using it ever since, no problems for almost 8 months.
sometimes the laptop wouldn’t read the wireless adapter but after i shut it off and let it cool down for 30 min or so.. after i turn it on its back again.. then after awhile its back the way it was.. i think its when it gets hot then it starts to malfunction.. damn HP!!!

My boss tx1000 is having same problem. I tried re-installing the driver from the recovery option and couple of other necessary things, but there is no positive result. I have got all the time in the world to read these comments. I am going to try ALL of these solutions.
It is a shame that HP the owner of the product has no answer to this problem. May be they are copying technology.
Thanks for all your efforts.

Go to youtube and look at “dv6000 reflow”. I did it (myself) and it works. It also fixed my wireless problem. After 2 years of constant problems, I’ve finally got the computer I paid for.

I had two tx1000’s one for me and one for my son. His wireless quit working and we tried everything caould not get it to work. While we were working on his my wireless stopped working. I called HP tech support and after two hours they said the card was bad. I can send it in for repair at a price of $398.00 plus tax. For a few dollars more I can get a new computer. I can tell you now the new computer and any I buy in the future will not be an HP product.
well ive been searching for 2 days and have tried everything and it turned out to be the most simple thing..go to your Hp wireless assistant..click properties and make sure all boxes are checked and voila..mine popped right back on after this..hope this helps
Just simply re-install your chipset driver, re-boot. On startup go into bios load default settings.
I have a Compaq Presario F700 and none of these fixes worked for me. I will NEVER buy an HP product again.
I have the same problem with my dell inspiron. To start with I could shut it down and remove the battery then it would work. Then it got to the point where I had to remove the wireless card and reseat it. Now nothing I try works. Dell told me I need a $430.00 motherboard, this is for the part only. This computer is 13 months old just out of warrent and I have already replace the touch pad, wireless card, dvd/cd r/w, and power supply. After talking with Dell they would not offer any customer support, reduced price or anything. Needless to say I will never purchase any product with Dell on it.
i had same problem a little tap with my fist between end of harddrive and wireless card while running, windows found wireless hardware installed and i had no problems since
I just reflow the gpu and wifi starts working again!!!
I recently ran into the same problem. HP G62 Windows 7 I3. I’ve used the computer since Jan 2011 with no problems. I started using my wifi to connect to my moms wireless router and occasionally would get an error saying her network had no Internet access, even though my phone and her computer connect just fine. I usually just go to the Network and Sharing Center, click on Adapter Settings, then Right click on the Wireless Adapter to disable then enable it. That usually works, except this time when I disabled it, the adapter completely disappeared and I have yet to recover it. I’ll try the suggestions on this forum and hope it will correct the problem! I’ll report back. In the meantime, if anyone has any other suggestions, please share, since I actually started to try some of the suggestions and have had no luck so far. Thanks!
